How does a witch stay safe if a killer can get through her protection spells?

Witches like Ruby and Courtney can take care of themselves. So when Courtney is murdered, Ruby’s world crashes to a halt. The only thing keeping her grounded is the return of Courtney’s brother, Cooper. He seeks revenge, but Ruby wants to help other witches stay alive. To do that, she’ll have to reunite with her old coven’s High Priest, who also happens to be her cheating ex-boyfriend.

If that wasn’t awkward enough, when the killer gets too close, Cooper temporarily moves into Ruby’s place while a police officer tails her every move. Cooper’s presence distracts Ruby as they fight their desire against their need to stay safe. Then Courtney begins to haunt Ruby’s dreams and secrets are spilled, things from Cooper’s past that could get them both killed. The killer continues to stalk Ruby and the more she discovers, the more she fears she won’t be able to keep her heart in her chest.

Ruby has lost her best friend due to an assasin who takes out his victim´s hearts. But that´s not all, because the assasin is now trying to kill Ruby, while she´s trying to get used to the idea that Courtney is not going to come back.

One of the things I like about Liz Long´s characters is that they always had a sarcastic humour that make me love them. Ruby makes jokes even in the most dangerous situations, and I like that in a character. She´s not the typical girl who only thinks that she´s going to die or how hot her best friend´s old brother is. Ruby knows that she´s in danger, and she deals with it. She knows that she´s one of the best wtiches in town, and she´s going to fight to death.

But she´s not alone. Cooper, Courtney´s old brother is back in town wanting to kill his sister´s killer. But he soon discovers that the next victim might be Ruby.

Apart from Cooper and Ruby, we meet other people. Like Michael, Ruby´s ex-boyfriend or Ben, the police who tries to keep Ruby alive. One of the best things about this book is that I suspected of everybody. I have no clues, and my mind jumped from one hypothesis to another.

So yes, this book has mystery and suspense. So if you like that kind of books, read this book ;)

And the romance. The romance... If you like books with a lot of romantic scenes and love confession in all the chapters this isn´t your book. But wait! If you like "real" relationships, that built up little by little, and with normal moments that show us that the characters are meant to be together, this is your book. Cooper and Ruby liked each other before he left town, but they didn´t do anything because they were afraid of destroying their friendship and because they were afraid of Courtney don´t liking the idea. But when Courtney is murdered, they have to live under the same roof, the have to see the other every day, so they find it difficult to not give in to what their hearts knew since the beginning.

So now you know. If you like mystery and real romance books, give this book a try ;)
